Starting something new and unknown can be difficult and stressful. I’ve put together some commonly asked questions to make the process easier. If you have a question that’s not included below, please contact me.
I look forward to meeting you!
Sheila
What can I expect during our first meeting?
Our first meeting will be an initial evaluation which typically lasts about 60 minutes. In addition to the intake packet, I’ll ask you for information relevant to your current concerns and history. At the end of our first meeting, I will answer any questions you may have, and we will make a plan on how best to proceed with your treatment. This usually includes establishing a recurring meeting time. If we decide that I’m not the best person to help you, I can provide you with a referral.

What do I need to bring to my first session?
Please bring the completed intake packet and your health insurance card to your first session. If this is a virtual session, please complete the intake packet and email it to me along with the front and back of your insurance card.

Are you seeing patients in person or virtually?
In-person sessions can be more rewarding and fruitful, but I understand that scheduling and distance issues can make that difficult. When you make your first appointment, let me know if you want an in-person or telehealth (virtual) session.

How long does therapy last?
Each session is 50 minutes. Regarding frequency and total treatment, each individual has different needs. The typical frequency is one time per week, although twice weekly can be more effective for some cases and situations. The length of time you will spend in therapy depends on your treatment goals and unique circumstances.
How much does therapy cost?
The full-hour intake session is $225, and the following individual sessions are $200. You may end up paying less than this amount because (1) your health insurance (using your out-of-network benefit after your deductible has been met) covers part of it, or (2) you and I can negotiate a sliding scale fee.

Do you accept insurance?
I am in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. There are a variety of BCBS plans, so if you are uncertain, please contact BCBS (the number is on the back of your card). Due to HIPAA privacy regulations, I am not able to contact your insurance on your behalf.

What if my health insurance is not BCBS?
Try! Call your insurance company and ask: What is my out-of-network benefit for outpatient mental health services in an office setting? The answer to this question needs to include your deductible (overall and what you have met up to the date you call), your copay after deductible, and if preauthorization is required.
What is your cancellation policy?
I require a 24-hour notification of cancellation. If you cancel within 24 hours, you will not be charged if another appointment is made in the same week. If we cannot find another agreed-upon time slot, then a full appointment fee of $200 will be owed. Note: If you feel unwell but would like to keep your appointment, you can switch from in-person to virtual.
